The Help

One of the most acclaimed books in the past few years has been The Help written by Kathryn Stockett. As with many books, they often get made into movies and this one has been as well. I didn't go see it in theater and recently it came out on dvd and so one night I rented it.

Not knowing much about the book - I began watching with much hope and had heard good reviews. The cast includes Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and many more. It is a story about the race relations in the 1960's era in the south and how the black maids raised the white children. One character, Skeeter played by Emma Stone decides that she wants a job instead of getting married and having kids of her own. While she is working on her articles on cleaning she comes up with the idea of talking with the maids and hearing their side of what it is like to be them.

This is where the movie completed changed for me and showing how empowered the main character Albileen played by the brilliant Viola Davis (Oscar here you come) becomes as she tells her story and gets all of her friends to join in as well. The movie is so amazing in every way. Unless you have no heart you will laugh and cry as you watch this true masterpiece of film making.

A true must see = my rating A+
